D’Angelo, R&B Singer, Loses Cancer Battle at 51

It’s hard to believe it’s been about 25 years since the Brown Sugar singer released his “Voodoo” album. The album featured the song Untilted (How Does it Feel) which was accompanied with a very provocative video of the artist in the nude, which lead to the song lasting on the Billboard top 200 for over 30 weeks and bringing the album to platinum status. D’Angelo made a lasting imprint and help bring the R&B genre to the next level. D’Angelo was a Grammy Winner songwriter and producer born Eugene Mitchell captured millions of fans with his neo-soul style and was in the forefront of the sub-genre. Sadly, his life was cut short in a long battle with cancer at only 51 years of age. He will be remembered as a legend in R&B.

“The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,” D’Angelo’s family said.
