As we step into 2026, SEQNews wants to thank our readers, supporters, and community members who engaged with us throughout 2025. Last year was about laying groundwork—telling important stories, asking tough questions, and centering Southeast Queens in conversations that too often overlook our neighborhoods.
In 2025, SEQNews covered a wide range of issues impacting everyday life in our community. From education challenges facing Black and Brown students, housing and affordability pressures, and public safety concerns, to local economic development, MWBE opportunities, and community-based programs designed to support families—we focused on stories that directly affect Southeast Queens residents. We also examined major policy decisions, elections, and national trends, breaking down how those decisions ripple into our local streets, schools, and households.
As we relaunch SEQNews in 2026, our commitment is clearer than ever. We are doubling down on hyper-local coverage of Southeast Queens—community news, civic engagement, education, small businesses, and quality-of-life issues—while continuing to connect the dots to state, national, and global policies that shape outcomes here at home. Whether it’s legislation, economic shifts, or social issues, we will keep asking: How does this impact Southeast Queens?
This year, expect more consistent updates, deeper reporting, stronger visuals, and expanded storytelling across platforms. SEQNews is evolving—but our mission remains the same: informed communities are empowered communities. We are also relaunching a podcast and will look to also host interviews on our page.
